Lifts at The Academy

The Academy hotel is a townhouse, originally built in 1776 when unfortunately, lifts were not common-place. The history, charm and character of the hotel unfortunately do not allow space for lifts to be installed. Therefore if you would like to stay on the ground or first floor, do place a request when making your reservation.

The Academy hotel is situated in Bloomsbury, a fashionable residential area in London's West End made up of Georgian terraces and leafy squares.

It came to the world's attention in the early years of the 20th century thanks to the Bloomsbury Set - a loose collection of intellectuals, the most famous of whom was the novelist Virginia Woolf. They achieved notoriety thanks to their liberal views, and the area still retains some bohemian character.

The hotel is in London's West End, famous for its shops and theatres. Walk the cobbled streets of Covent Garden, a converted flower market now full of fashionable boutiques. A short walk from the hotel are the shops of Oxford Street, the nightlife of Soho, restaurants of Chinatown, and the history of Trafalgar Square, The British Library and The British Museum.
