Based at Hotel de Vigny since 2014, Penati Al Baretto laid claim to its first Michelin Star after just a few months. The brainchild of legendary Italian chef, Alberico Penati, the restaurant serves up contemporary Italian cuisine that puts an intense twist on a wide range of classic Italian tastes and textures. Penatti describes his technique as, using the produce of today to recreate the exciting flavours of the past.

His award-winning Italian cuisine appears – on the surface at least – to be light and simple, but is deceptively complicated; combining intricate skills and precise cooking techniques. Now regarded as one of the best Italian restaurants in Paris, advance booking is recommended.

Meet the Chef

Born in Casatenovo, just north of Milan, Alberico Penati began his career with an apprenticeship in Lecco, before moving around to work in some of Italy’s most famous hotels and restaurants. In 1982 he moved to Paris to work at Le Carpaccio, before heading to London to head up the kitchens at Harry’s Bar and Annabel’s; as well as helping to launch the exclusive 5 Hertford Street and his first restaurant, Alberico at Aspinalls.
